Meet Krissy, the Creator Behind the Signs

Hi! My name is Kristin Kapela, but my friends and family call me Krissy. 

I’ve been a South Florida local, Palm Beach County to be exact, for a little over 10 years. I’ll always be a New Yorker at heart, (shout out to my 516 Long Island family!), but here is home. 

Growing up, I was always a creative little one. Be it school wall murals, classes, or just doodling on every page (sorry textbooks), creativity expressed through art was my first love. Little did I know  my passion for art would lead me to launch my own business.

After high school, I went to college for Childhood Education, and later went on to receive my Masters in Special Education. Teaching was one of my first real passions as an adult, and in 2011 I pursued my teaching career in Florida. Amazingly enough, I am still molding the minds of little ones while simultaneously building this business. It is my hope to one day leave the classroom behind and pursue my passion for art full-time.

Teacher gone small business owner has been nothing short of challenging. The. Hustle. Is. Real.

I am completely self-taught in hand-lettering and design, with no professional schooling in art! It's taken years of practice, researching techniques and materials, and sheer determination to reach a level of ability that matches my creative spirit.

The “business ball” started rolling when a good friend asked me to create several baby shower signs, then another asking for a teacher’s door sign, then a reading nook piece. The requests started snowballing, and I had an Aha! Moment: my art brings forth emotion in others. It cozies up a room, emphasizes a business, dresses up a space, helps realize a vision, and enhances a special day. Maybe I should charge for that, I thought to myself.
